Tigers tamed in gymnastics opener at Arvada West
It wasn't exactly the start to the season head coach Lauren Johnson was hoping for. With every girl returning from last year, the Tiger gymnastics squad has the talent to challenge any team in the state. Of course, if that talent can't make it into the lineup due to injuries, there's not much Summit can do about it. With three key gymnasts saddled with soreness, the Tigers struggled to a team score of 143.05 in a tri-meet at Arvada West on Thursday. The score was a bit lower than that of last year's first meet. "Taking into...

Summit High football sacked by Battle Mountain
FARMER'S KORNER - For the second straight week, Summit dominated on defense. And for the second straight week, Summit sputtered on offense. The Tigers were shut out Friday night at home by Battle Mountain, ending a five-year winning streak against their Shrine Pass rival and starting the season 0-2 for the first time under head coach Dylan Hollingsworth. "Our defense was phenomenal," Hollingsworth said. "For two weeks in a row, we had just one missed play, and that happens. But offensively, we have to get the ball in the end zone, we have to put a drive...

A PIT tag is similar to a small microchip placed in a dog or cat at a veterinary clinic for individual identification if lost. The new PIT tag system, installed in early August, consists of four, 6-foot-by-5-foot antennas...

BRECKENRIDGE - Local rainfall in August was about 35 percent above average, bringing the weather year's precipitation to date within a hundredth of average, said Rick Bly, National Weather Service observer in downtown Breckenridge. "We got the majority in the first 10 days of August," he said. The Labor Day weekend forecast is sunny skies and warm temperatures. But it won't be long before the snow starts to fall. Bly said September averages about 4 inches of snow. The High Country's monsoon season runs about July 15 to Aug....
